The North American Actuarial Council is asking the American Academy of Actuaries to help draw more attention to Americans’ increasing lifespan.
The NAAC, Arlington, Va., says the AAA, Washington, should try to put the implications of increasing longevity into “the forefront of public policy discourse.”
A failure to adapt to increasing longevity could threaten the viability of many financial security arrangements, the NAAC warns in a letter signed by 15 presidents and presidents-elect of North American actuarial professional associations.
The AAA should coordinate longevity education efforts with the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Ottawa, Ontario and Colegio Nacional de Actuarios A.C., Mexico City, the NAAC says.
