NAIC Accepting Consumer Liaison Program Applications 

 

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has started accepting applications for the 2010 Consumer Liaison Program.

The NAIC, Kansas City, Mo., says the program “promotes consumer representation and interaction with the NAIC members by providing funding for qualified consumer representatives to participate in NAIC meetings.”

Consumer representatives also can apply to serve serve as liaisons without receiving NAIC funding.

To get NAIC funding, a consumer rep should represent should be a “national, state, or local organization that serves to protect the interests of consumers as they relate to the regulation of insurance,” according liaison program rules.

An individual who wants NAIC funding to serve as a consumer liaison must:

- Have a commitment to representing consumer interests in insurance regulation.

- Represent a nonprofit organization.

- Be willing to fully participate in NAIC national meetings and related conference calls.

- Have demonstrated expertise and experience on insurance-related issues addressed by the NAIC.

- Have no obligations or commitments that conflict with his or her responsibility to represent consumer interests.

- Require NAIC funding in order to fully participate in NAIC national meetings and conference calls.
