- WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis (NYSE:WLP), has named Frank Bloomquist market regional vice president, specialty markets, for the affiliated health plans’ local group business, which excludes California.
Bloomquist previously was regional sales director for WellPoint’s Ohio subsidiary.
- CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia (NYSE:CI), says Stephanie Gorman Hurlbut will president and general manager of the CIGNA health care operation in Phoenix.
She previously was product development actuary and vice president of West Region underwriting and CIGNA Voluntary underwriting.
Gorman has a bachelor’s degree in actuarial mathematics from the University of Connecticut. She is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries, and she serves on the board of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, Phoenix.
CIGNA also has hired Dr. Alan Muney to be senior vice president, total health and network.
Muney previously was an executive director at the Blackstone Group L.P., New York.
Muney has a bachelor’s degree and a medical degree from Brown University. He completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis.
- Corporate Synergies Inc., Mount Laurel, N.J., has hired Daniel O’Brien to be executive vice president and chief financial officer of the full-service benefits broker and consultant.
O’Brien previously was chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Touchstone Health HMO Inc., New York.
O’Brien has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from La Salle University in Philadelphia. He holds the Certified Public Accountant and Certified Medical Practice Executive professional designations.
- Lockton Inc., Kansas City, Mo., has promoted Lissa Thomson to senior vice president and chief consultant for its operations in San Diego, and it has hired Bryan Davis to be a vice president and senior consultant in the employee benefits practice in San Diego.
Thomson has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Boston University.
Davis, who previously was the Western region vice president for Optum, a wellness arm of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., has a bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
